Dr. Jawa is a Professor of Mechanical Engineering at California Polytechnic University (Cal Poly Pomona).Dr. Jawa Dr. Jawa has been repeatedly recognized for his excellence as an educator and is known for his innovative and engaging teaching pedagogy. Most recently, Dr. Jawa was awarded the Northrop Grumman Excellence in Teaching Award in 2010. He has received numerous awards and grants for his teaching and research efforts.

Dr. Jawa discovered Chi Running much like a scientist discovers a revolutionary and lifesaving medicine. Dr. Jawa’s passion for running is a result of a dare. A father of three, his daughter proposed running a half marathon together, daring him to keep up with her training regimen. When he began running, he immediately suffered severe knee pain and was unable to run a complete mile.

As a scholar and professor, Dr. Jawa’s scientific mind approached training analytically – he read a library full of books on running and marathon preparation and scoured the internet for bio-mechanically correct running tips, but was disappointed when none of the books helped him learn to run injury free.

Determined to successfully face his daughter’s challenge and overcome painful plantar fasciitis, Dr. Jawa discovered Danny Dreyer’s Chi Running book accidentally. Reading Danny’s book changed Dr. Jawa’s running habits and quite literally changed his life. Jawa became a passionate Chi Running student and has never looked back.

Dr. Jawa has successfully (and pain free!) completed several full and half marathons, including St. George, Malibu, LA and the DC National Marathon. He believes family comes first, and has taught his wife and three daughters Chi Running. The Jawa Family are avid Chi runners and regularly run marathons together.

Dr. Jawa is an avid world traveler, scuba diver, birdwatcher, and budding naturalist. Dr. Jawa is excited to share the joys of Chi Running across generations and truly believes Chi Running can work for anyone. Before Chi
I am a reasonably athletic and fit male in my early 50s. I was a casual runner, running about 3-5 miles at a time. I started practicing for a half marathon which was followed by practicing for a full. I went through a series of problems: Achilles tendinitis, runner's knee, black toe nails, calf muscle cramps, and constant knee pain. I managed my painful knees by wearing braces and icing them after long runs.

After Chi
Since following Chi running during the past four months, most of my problems have disappeared. I do not wear a knee brace now. My recoveries after long runs are less than a day. I enjoy running even more now and look for days when I can run longer.
