ABOUT CHI RUNNING
What is Chi Running?
Chi Running blends the inner focus, powerful movement principles, and flow of T'ai Chi with the power and energy of running to create a revolutionary approach to effortless and injury-free running. The Chi Running increases mental clarity & focus, enhances the joy of running, and turns running into a safe and effective lifelong program for health, fitness, and well-being.
The cornerstones of Chi Running are postural alignment and relaxation because the combination of the two is the best way to run faster, farther and injury-free. Chi Running includes: landing with midfoot, using a "gravity-assisted" forward lean and engaging core strength for propulsion rather than leg strength. This approach makes your running easier and healthier for your whole body.
The Chi Running technique shares many components with the Kenyans, East Africans and Mexican Copper Canyon Rarámuri, who are some of the most relaxed and efficient runners in the world. Whether you're an injured runner, a beginner runner, a marathon runner, a triathlete, or someone who runs to stay fit, Chi Running has helped thousands improve their technique, reduce injury and achieve personal goals. Chi Running teaches this technique to all levels of runners through an easy and enjoyable, step-by-step system.
Danny Dryer is the co-founder of ChiRunning and ChiWalking, revolutionary forms of moving that blend the subtle inner focuses of T'ai Chi with running and walking. His work is based on his study of T'ai Chi with Master Zhu Xilin and internationally renowned Master George Xu, and his 35 years of experience, running, racing ultra marathons and coaching people in “intelligent movement."
He has taught thousands of people the ChiRunning and ChiWalking techniques with profound results. Dreyer is an accomplished Ultra Marathon runner and has raced every distance from a 10K to 100 miles.
He has successfully completed 40 ultra-marathons since 1995, finishing in the top 3 in his age group. In August 2005 he placed second in his age group in the USATF National 50k Championships.

Before Chi
I am a reasonably athletic and fit male in my early 50s. I was a casual runner, running about 3-5 miles at a time. I started practicing for a half marathon which was followed by practicing for a full. I went through a series of problems: Achilles tendinitis, runner's knee, black toe nails, calf muscle cramps, and constant knee pain. I managed my painful knees by wearing braces and icing them after long runs.
After Chi
Since following Chi running during the past four months, most of my problems have disappeared. I do not wear a knee brace now. My recoveries after long runs are less than a day. I enjoy running even more now and look for days when I can run longer.

The lessons of ChiRunning are not limited to running. I have learned how to sustain proper posture -- I no longer suffer from chronic back pain from sitting at a desk all day. ChiRunning has shown me how fun running can be. As a long-time yoga practitioner, it complements my yoga routine and has greatly improved my balance and core strength.

I have always liked the idea of running more than actually getting out there and pushing through it. With Chi I have found pleasure in running as I am able to enjoy it and effortlessly glide. Seems impossible but it's true! It takes work to get there but once you do, your whole work out perspective will be changed completely!
